5 Rare Classic Cars

1931 Bugatti Type 41

This vintage car dubbed the Royale was an oversized luxury car that was produced between 1927 and 1933. Seven of these cars were produced, however, one of them has been wrecked (by Ettore Bugatti himself) so only six remain today. Bugatti planned to build twenty-five of these to sell to European royalty but they were trying to market these luxury vehicles during the Great Depression. At $30,000 for the base price, even that was not even feasible for royalty. Even though seven were made, Bugatti was only able to sell three of them at the time. In 1987, the last time one was sold at an auction, a London car dealer paid $9.8 million for a 1931 Royale.

1961 Ferrari 250 GT California SWB Spider

This car might look familiar to anyone who has seen the movie Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. While the Ferrari was out of budget for the filmmakers, they created a replica they used for filming that closely resembled the Ferrari 250 GT. There were only 55 of these cars ever made making it one of the rarest Ferrari cars to date. This model was built between 1953 and 1964 but because of the iconic appearance that is made in the movie, the model developed in 1961 became the most valuable selling for $17.6 million in 2016.

1957 Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa

In 1957 Ferrari built the Testa Rossa to race in the World Sportscar Championships and proved to be one of the most successful racing cars that they ever produced. Not only was this car known for its winning record, but it also came equipped with an iconic body style. Only 34 units of this car were ever built causing the price of these cars to soar. This is the second most expensive car ever sold. In 2014 it went for $39.8 million with other units not far behind in cost.

1962 Aston Martin DB4 GT Zagato

Between 1960 and 1963 Aston Martin produced a grand tourer sports car that today is very high in demand. They originally only produced 19 units of this vehicle followed by four additional Sanction II units and two additional Sanction III units. A few units were lightened up in order to race, although they did not perform as well as Aston Martin would like. This coupe’s design was so popular that many replicas of the Zagato were produced by other brands. In 2015 this vehicle sold for $14.3 million.

Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale

This car is so hard to find that it is very difficult to know its worth since they so rarely are up for sale. Of only 18 units created, only 10 were able to be sold since two were prototypes and six were concept cars. We know that at least one of them has recently been sold for $10 million, but others have not been up for sale for many years. The 33 Stradale is known for its unique design and sport car abilities with a top speed of 160 mph and zero to 60 mph in 5.5 seconds.
